Help Build a Church Community - for People who aren’t in church yet

New Worshipping Community Lead

We’re looking for someone to lead and grow new Christian communities in Bethnal Green, especially among children, families, students and young adults.

This is a hands-on role for someone who loves people, is confident leading others, and wants to see faith come alive in new and creative ways across our community.

This will be a full-time position within the church staff team based at St Peter’s, Bethnal Green, reporting to the Priest-in-Charge.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Take the lead in helping new church communities grow - both by strengthening what already exists, and starting new initiatives

  • Build community by developing welcoming spaces where people can explore faith

  • Work with the rest of the St Peter’s team and our programme to clear ways for people to move from first contact into church life

  • Connect with our existing toddler groups, schools and youth groups

  • Help people already engaged (via routes such as Alpha) to take next steps in faith

  • Recruit and support volunteers, and spot / grow new leaders

  • Shape how people grow in faith by creating simple accessible pathways for discipleship

  • Help your communities become sustainable beyond the initial funding provided by the Tower Hamlets Mission Project

  • Regularly report on your progress to the Tower Hamlets Mission Project

Who you are:

You need to be the type of person who can take initiative, collaborate effectively, and bring others on a journey with you. We’re looking for someone who is:

  • A committed Christian, who is excited about sharing faith with others

  • Passionate about working with children, young people and families

  • Comfortable leading, organising and getting things moving

  • A strong communicator who works well with different kinds of people

  • Able to juggle multiple priorities without dropping the ball

  • Creative - someone who can spot opportunities and experiment with new approaches

  • Someone who is inspired and encouraged by St Peter’s mission vision - For God’s Glory and Bethnal Green’s Good

This role involves working across many different churches in Bethnal Green, so you will need to be agile and comfortable across different Anglican traditions.

This role requires an Enhanced DBS check and a strong commitment to safeguarding. There is also an occupational requirement to be a Christian under the Equalities Act 2010.

Why this role matters to us:

You will be helping create communities in Bethnal Green for people who wouldn’t normally walk into a church, and enable them to:

  • Find belonging

  • Explore faith

  • Grow as disciples of Jesus

To apply, please send a cover letter and a CV to info@stpetersbethnalgreen.org - we will require two references as part of the application process.
